Are the fabrics certified organic?

Natural Slipcovers carries a line of fabric suitable for slipcovers that is made from certified, organic cotton. The colors in the patterns are the natural colors of cotton: cream, shades of taupe and brown, and a beautiful muted green. No chemicals are used in processing.  From another company I can offer organic cotton fabric that has been dyed with an“earth-friendly” dying process.

The hemp lines of fabric were grown and treated without herbicides, fungicides, or pesticides. They are not certified organic but are available undyed as well as unbleached. Additionally they are naturally resistant to mould.

Are slipcovers washable?

That depends. Most cotton (both organic and chemically treated) fabrics will shrink when washed. They may also change in texture. Often the washed appearance is more beautiful than before washing. If you plan to wash your slipcover Natural Slipcovers highly recommends that the fabric be prewashed prior to cutting. Call for an appointment to view pre-washed and un-washed organic cottons and hemps.

What options are there for musty mouldy furniture?

If you have allergies to mould and mildew and your furniture smells musty, you may prefer to have your furniture reupholstered  first. The old straw and musty cotton batting can be replaced with (non-organic, 100% synthetic) polyester batting and new (non-organic,petro-chemical-based, 100% synthetic) foam. These options may not be the best for the world's environment, but they may make your home environment a healthier place for you. To minimize dust and animal dander washable slipcovers can be made for the re-furbished furniture.

How are the slipcovers made?

Natural Slipcovers takes pride in designing a slipcover that will not only fit well, but will be a pleasure to look at. Stripes will match up. The fabric will be cut so patterns in the weave are centered, balanced and matched whereever possible. Seams will be professionally finished so that they do not unravel.

Because every piece of furniture is a different shape, and because the characteristics of fabrics (stretch, drape, body)are diverse, each slipcover must be custom fitted and shaped for each individual customer.
